Match Report | AL2 - R9 vs Mosman

RESSIES We travelled away to Mosman on Saturday for what we knew was a big top 4 clash. We started the game holding out their waves of attack, which we did well until they finally broke through and we let in some unlucky goals. We finished the first half much stronger however creating some close chances through Connor and Dean upfront. 3-0 at halftime. Some positive talk at halftime made us realise we were still well in the game and needed to be first to score. We grabbed a quick goal straight away through a pin point cross from Jase to be glanced on by Kieran. This lifted everyone’s energy and we were the dominant team 2nd half until the end but just couldn’t put one away. The game finished 4-1, but this didn’t reflect the nature of the game, much closer than the scoreline. Some other favourable results meant we held onto our top 4 spot! Let’s keep working on our possession and finishing and bounce back with another win next week to keep us outright top 4 going into the final half of the season FIRSTS Mosman firsts had only won one game going into the game, however they started much better than this suggested! The game was fairly even for the first 10 mins and Mosman grabbed the first goal on the break. This seemed to jolt us into attack and we bounced back as we should, the stronger team and getting a grip of the game. As it wore on we gained more and more control, passing and moving well off the ball and got one back with another textbook header from Isaak. 1-1 at halftime. Given our control at the end of the 1st half, we were confident to finish the game off again with a win. Some superb goals from Jez and Jellis gave us a 3-1 lead. Mosman bounced back with a lucky penalty to push us a bit more, however we finished the game off through some great build up from Jared onto Jellis to score and seal the win. A deserved win built on possession plays which started from our defenders. The win leaves it still very congested at the top of the table only separated on goal difference. One area to work on would be our transition play, dropping back from attack into defence which we got caught out a few times on the weekend. Overall a great finish to the first half of the season leading into the home stretch of the season!
