Match Reports - June 18th & 19th

Jun 18, 2016

U10 Rattlers

The Rattlers faced tough competition playing the Beacon Hill Falcons on Saturday. The score was a 4-0 loss and the team tried their best. Our goalies were under pressure and worked very hard at preventing many goals.

We just missed scoring a goal by a fraction in the last minute.

Well done to the team for a fantastic effort and for not giving up.

Under 11 Div 1 Blades

St Augustines Avengers 4 BTH Blades 0

A rematch of the first week's fixture presented a chance to see how the Blades had progressed this season. The early signs were promising with the Blades taking the game to the Saints.

As is the case in any top division however, mistakes are punished ruthlessly and the promising start soon turned into a 3-0 deficit at half time.

The team kept their heads high and with their backs to the wall for most of the second half managed to limit the Avengers to one lucky goal.

Kyle Ormiston earned a well overdue player of the week award with his typical tireless work on the right of midfield.

Despite the reversal, team spirits remain high and the Blades will emerge from this testing period a stronger unit.

U10 Ravens

Under 10’s Seaforth 2 v Ravens 1 Although we were faced with our first loss of the season, it was a very entertaining match with some great attack, passing, defensive pressure and team play. Following the excellent training session last week with the player mentors, the game saw us playing some wonderful football but missing golden opportunities to score.

Our defence once again was strong and consistent and was proving to be extremely difficult to penetrate but despite our best efforts Seaforth were too strong in attack and they were able to score in quick succession late in the second half. Taking a look at the positives, our ability to rotate players through defence, up front and midfield and have confidence in them doing the job is a real plus and an indication of the talent in our team.

Further, we never gave up and it was a valiant and brave team effort right up to the final whistle.

Heads up Ravens!!! We will take on the lessons learnt and enact revenge at our next encounter.

WAL-1

What an epic match against Harbord United. Our ladies team was determined to even the scoreboard with a previous loss of 2-1. We fought hard in the first half with some tremendous runs from our attacking mids Nada and Macca. While we had some great shots on goal we didn't manage to finish any in the back of the net. Cracking saves from Mel Toovey in goals saw us finish nil all at half time. An encouraging chat from our coach gave us the fire needed to fight for the game. Unfortunately, we conceived a goal in a high kick from HSU during the first 10 in second half. We were determined not to let the game get away from us though. A through ball from Holly, saw Laura run the ball straight to the net and pop one pass the keeper. With a tight defence from HSU, the goal couldn't have been any sweeter. Our defensive line worked hard to keep the ball away from our keeper. Some brilliant sweeping from Shay, clear kicks from Bec, and marking from Nikki meant we were able to finish with a tie. Overall, a brilliant game from our girls who fought hard for a well-earned tie against table leaders.
