MUFC Development Squad Trials 2017


MUFC will be expanding the Development Squads in 2017.

Please note: One of the conditions for selection in a Development Squad is any player selected must register for the same MWFA Club in 2017 as they were registered in 2016. If a player is not willing to meet this requirement, that player should not try out for the Development Squad. Any player, who is selected in a Development Squad and in the 2017 season is found to have registered for a different Club to their 2016 Club, will be removed from the Development Squad and replaced by a player who meets this requirement

The program will include the following

U6 – U8 (mixed)

U9 – U12 (boys)

U9 – U12 (girls)

The Development Squads is a training program that runs from February to September/October for approximately 30 weeks. The program is broken into two phases.

U6 – U8 and U9 – U12.

The under 6 to 8 phase focuses on developing players’ love of the game. The U6 and U7 focuses on getting players comfortable on the ball whilst discovering how their bodies move and interact with a football at their feet. The U8 age group puts an emphasis on ball mastery to ensure that players feel comfortable with the ball as they prepare for the next phase of their development.

The under 9 to 12 phase looks at the skill acquisition of the core skills. Delivering the same material as the Skill Acquisition Program, the program look to develop the players’ first touch, striking the ball, running with the ball and 1 v 1 abilities and the decision making associated with these core skills. There will be opportunities for players to train with the SAP squads.

The programs are training only programs and players must play for an MWFA club in the season. Ideally they will train twice a week with MUFC and once a week with their club as well as their club game.

Trials for these will be on the following days.

Mixed U6s, U7s & U8s

Monday 30th January

U6 & U7 – 4:00pm arrival for 4:30pm start

U8 – 5:15pm arrival for a 5:45pm start

Wednesday 1st February

U6 & U7 – 4:00pm arrival for 4:30pm start

U8 – 5:15pm arrival for a 5:45pm start

Monday 6th February (if required)

U6 & U7 – 4:00pm arrival for 4:30pm start

U8 – 5:15pm arrival for a 5:45pm start

Wednesday 8th February (if required)

U6 & U7 – 4:00pm arrival for 4:30pm start

U8 – 5:15pm arrival for a 5:45pm start

Girls U9/U10s & U11/U12s

Monday 30th January

U9/10 – 4:00pm arrival for 4:30pm start

U11/12 – 5:15pm arrival for a 5:45pm start

Wednesday 1st February

U9/10 – 4:00pm arrival for 4:30pm start

U11/12 – 5:15pm arrival for a 5:45pm start

Monday 6th February (if required)

U9/10 – 4:00pm arrival for 4:30pm start

U11/12 – 5:15pm arrival for a 5:45pm start

Boys U9 – U12

These squads have been finalised.
