Another great weekend of football. 4 more points to the tally.
1st and 2nd on the competition table respectively going into the bye weekend.
Reserves
On Saturday we faced a strong Wakehurst team, we started well creating chances and were unlucky not to put one or two away. We held up the ball well and limited Wakehurst to very few chances throughout the game. What I loved about the performance was our hunger in defence, we were physical and tracked back well across the park to frustrate the Wakehurst team, especially in the 2nd half where we held them out to claim another clean sheet. Big credit to Olly to stepping up in goals and literally putting his body on the line keep us a draw – hope he recovers well!
The draw turned out to be quite vital for us going into the bye round, as given other results on the weekend means we hung onto 2nd spot. It’s our determination and hunger in every game which has deserved us such a great start and keeps building well for the rest of the season. Let’s get to training next 2 weeks and keep working on our build up play in attack and finishing!
Firsts
The Firsts had a cracking match against a physically tough Wakehurst team. A strong start to the match, we dominated possession and played the majority of the match in Wakehursts final third. After 20 minutes, Lachy threw in a trade mark long throw which Kieran attacked with a glancing header and again opened the scoring. This was closely followed 6 minutes later by Jeremy Green who ran onto a beautifully set through-ball and scored our second goal. Unfortunately, Wakehurst fought their way back into the match when the referee awarded their team with a highly questionable penalty, which was duly converted. They picked up a little more momentum and we found ourselves on the back foot for the closing quarter of the first half. 10 minutes before half time, one of the Wakehurst players lashed at the ball from outside the box to even the score at the half.
A positive team talk at half time saw the team come out fighting in the second half and a big solo run from Javed resulted in another left foot bomb, which took a deflection a Wakehurst player, lobbed into the air and nestled into the back of the net. 25 minutes later, the referee was faced with exactly the same situation when he awarded a hand-ball against us, and in good form, kept a consistent approach. Lachy stepped up and slotted away to penalty to secure the 3 points and put an end to any Wakehurst fight.
