AL2 | Round Four Match Report

RESERVES TEAM

We got off to a shaky start on the weekend after Saints capitalised on a couple of defensive errors. It was always going to be tough coming back from this and it shows we need to come out focused from the very start. We also let a number of high balls through, which once they bounced put us under so much more pressure. Conor created a number of chances but was unlucky not to get a goal.

We came out for the 2nd half much stronger and I felt like we had much better possession. We were more composed and our strikers were getting a number of shots. Defensively we were much tighter and stronger too, winning more high balls which shut down their attack. Despite finishing 5-0, the second half proved to be much closer and gives us more confidence going into next week.

FIRSTS TEAM

Saints are always a tough team and on Saturday they came out very strongly. The first half was a tight contest, both teams creating chances but it was Saints who would (like in the Ressies game) pounce on some defensive errors at the back. We went into the halftime 2-0 but ready to bounce back knowing the quality we have.

2nd half as I said we were dominating possession, but our midfielders were unable to link up with our strikers well to get good shots on target. This I felt was our main downfall. Saints had very little attack for Trickey, until the end of the game as we became more fatigued and they got one extra. The score really didn’t reflect the game I thought and the effort everyone put in out there was amazing, walking off knowing they had given their all. The James Davis last man tackle to stop a goal summed this effort up! It’s a lesson for us to work on our link up play in attack for rest of the season. A shout out to Matty Oliver for not only jumping in goals but also putting his body on the line.
