POST MATCH REPORT | AL3s - R3 vs STRIKERS A at ST MATTHEWS (AWAY GAME)

We played a resolute and capable Strikers team that are currently at the top of the table. We started the game a little sluggish and struggled to keep possession of the ball. Unfortunately, Strikers took the lead half way through the first half with a well taken strike. To be fair, Strikers were unlucky not to have had at least 3 or 4 more goals in the first half with a number of very poor finishes despite good build up play. It was also brilliant that Oli pulled off a number of quality saves! We eventually settled in well towards the end of the first half with a few good chances created, however ended the first half 1-0.

A rousing tactical half time speech lead by Chuddy led to a change in formation and we came out stronger in the second half, dominating possession and limiting Strikers to a few chances. Despite being poor in front of goals, Strikers had a good run against the flow of play with a long ball over the top and a good finish taking us 2-0 down.

We pressed hard and continued to dominate possession and used the wings effectively. We took some decent shots on goal however failed to score with the Strikers keeper pulling off some great saves. With 4 minutes to go, we won a corner. The gaffa took the corner and through 20 players, landed the ball on Carden’s head who slammed the ball home.

Strikers took the kick off with 20 seconds to go. We pressed hard and Damon won the ball which landed at the Gaffa’s feet. He took a wild swing which hit the back of a strikers player and landed out wide right. Gabe took the ball and crossed it into the box. Andy took a first-time shot and curled the ball into the top right of the goal. The Strikers keeper pulled off an amazing save, pushing the ball onto the bar and back into the box. Glyn then ran onto the ball and slammed it into the back of the net to equalise 2-2 and the referee blew the whistle – full time!
